Plating wears

Plating wears. When it does, the base metal touches your skin. How long that takes depends on the thickness, where you wear it, and how often. We list the thickness so you can compare.

The base metal on this piece is 316L steel, so when the gold does go, what is left is the same metal we sell unplated.

316L contains nickel in the alloy. Released nickel is measured, not assumed — our test report is linked. Some people with severe nickel allergy still react. Titanium is the alternative.

About this piece

Same 2.5 µm of 18k gold as the brass pieces. The difference is the core: when this plating eventually wears through, the metal that meets your skin is 316L stainless steel, not brass.

What we would tell you before you buy

It still wears through. We are not claiming otherwise. We are saying the ending is different, and that 316L contains nickel in the alloy.

Your rights on this order

You can report a fault for three years from delivery. For the first two years, if something is wrong, we have to show it wasn't faulty when you got it. Not the other way round.

You have fourteen days to change your mind, counted from the day after your parcel arrives. You do not have to give a reason. This piece is not sealed, so that right applies in full.

If we say no to your claim and you disagree, you can take it to Allmänna reklamationsnämnden (ARN). It is free for you, and we will follow their recommendation.

Not sure this is the right metal?

Metal Match asks three questions about what you have worn before. It does not ask about your health, and it cannot tell you what you react to.
