This metal darkens
Sterling silver tarnishes. It is a reaction with air, not a fault. A polishing cloth brings it back.
About this piece
The face is chemically oxidised to a deep charcoal and then the raised edges are polished back to bright silver. It is the same reaction that tarnish causes, applied deliberately and evenly.
What we would tell you before you buy
The dark layer is surface deep. It will lighten where the ring rubs, and over a year or two it will read as a worn finish rather than a black one. That is wear, not a fault.
